‘Kids must have a healthy breakfast everyday’ says Milo as it launches island wide campaign

Back to Press releases

Milo, the brand that has continually encouraged and inspired kids to grow up with sports over the years, has taken another giant leap in motivating kids to live a healthy lifestyle by promoting the importance of a healthy breakfast.

A recent study shows that many Sri Lankan kids leave to school without having a balanced breakfast in the morning (Source: Understanding and Mapping Health, Nutrition and Wellness Study – TNS Sri Lanka for Nestlé Lanka, 2012). This is a worrying statistic as breakfast, being the first meal after long hours of fasting in the night, is largely considered the most important meal of the day. Breakfast helps growing kids be more alert, have better concentration power and be more focused in school. A balanced and nutritious breakfast will also ensure they are adequately energized for an active day.

“Sri Lanka has been home to Milo since 1960. As a brand that Sri Lankan kids have looked up to for over fifty years, we feel a strong responsibility to educate Sri Lankan families about the right nutrition to start their day and encourage progressive actions towards the cause," says Norman Kannangara AVP – Beverages for Nestlé Lanka. “Championing the cause of breakfast is important to us because helping children ‘fuel the winning spirit’ is what Milo is all about. Together with a balanced food intake, Milo’s goodness of malt, milk and cocoa, enriched with vitamins and minerals, helps children start the day fully energised and stay active throughout.”

Milo kicked off its breakfast campaign by hosting the country’s biggest breakfast gathering at the Sports Ministry Grounds in Colombo, where 6,000 children, together with their parents raised their Milo cups and pledged to have a healthy breakfast every day.

Over the next few weeks, Milo will be providing free ‘Breakfast mugs’ with every 400g pack of Milo, aiming to create awareness on the importance of breakfast with this merchandise. Under the theme ‘MILO@Breakfast’, the brand will hold interactive awareness building events at supermarkets across the country to have one-on-one educational sessions with mums about the importance of breakfast and also conduct interesting breakfast games for kids. Milo vans will also travel across the country to educate mothers on this topic.

Reaching out to its tech-savvy audience, Milo will also host an interactive Milo breakfast tour hosted on the Milo Sri Lanka Facebook page (facebook.com/MILOSrilanka).This virtual tour will include a variety of quick and easy to follow breakfast ideas to make every breakfast nutritious and convenient for Sri Lankan families.
