Nestlé Lanka joined hands with Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement – one of the largest and most wide-spread non-governmental organizations in Sri Lanka – to distribute food to communities in-need across the island. Accordingly, the ‘Good food, Good life’ company donated essential dry rations and select Nestlé products to the 25 Community Food Banks established by Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement in response to the rising food insecurity in the country. The food items thus donated, would be distributed to select beneficiary families based on their requirements.

This worthy collaboration is part of Nestlé Lanka’s efforts towards giving back to Sri Lanka in this time of need. The company initiated several projects this year targeting stakeholders across and beyond its value chain in its endeavour of supporting communities navigate through current socio-economic challenges.

“Food and nutrition are at the core of our business and as the world’s largest food and beverage company, we strongly believe that there is much we can do to support Sri Lankans in these trying times. This is why we embarked on our journey of giving back to the country and its people, as we have been doing for the past 115 years. It gives us immense pleasure to work together with Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, which has consistently supported Sri Lankan communities over the years through diverse notable programmes such as the Community Food Banks. We look forward to implementing more projects with the organization in the near future” said Mr. Jason Avanceña, Managing Director of Nestlé Lanka.

Sharing his thoughts, Dr. Vinya S. Ariyaratne, President, Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement said “Food insecurity is a growing concern for most Sri Lankans presently and collaborations such as this is imperative to help sustain our communities during this challenging time. Therefore, we are grateful for Nestlé Lanka’s contribution towards our Community Food Banks, which are benefiting thousands of families in all corners of the country with much-needed support.”
