Knowing your waist size can offer valuable information about your overall health risk. It is an approximate index of intra abdominal fat mass and total body fat. Apart from maintaining a healthy body weight, it is important to maintain an individual’s waist circumference within healthy limits.
Optimum waist circumference
- Males - 90 cm (36 inch)
- Females - 80 cm (32 inch)
If waist circumference of an individual exceeds the above, he/she is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular and other forms of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes hypertension, etc.
